ROSTOV-ON-DON, RUSSIA – SEPTEMBER 21, 2018 Veronica, 6, was found dead hanging from a fence in the backyard of her family home. Her mother, 27-year-old Anna Zubko, tried to tell police that she died as a result of an accident and suffocated to death with a toy.

However, it was discovered that she had been killed and raped by her 28-year-old father and Anna’s husband Yaroslav Oleinikov. He confessed to the crime and stated during his testimony that he first strangled her and then raped her. He said she was still twitching a little during the rape.
The family came from a very poor background. Veronica did not even go to school and stayed at home alone with her father. It is said that she was sexually abused over a long period of time. The only one who brought home money was Anna, who worked as a cleaner in a department store.

The couple had another child together – a 3-year-old boy, Ivan. The authorities stripped her of her parental rights after Veronika’s funeral and moved him to a children’s home. Oleinikov was sentenced to imprisonment.
About six months after the tragedy, Anna succumbed to pneumonia, which she contracted from a weakened immunity from too much stress.
