BRAZIL, AUGUST 9, 2025 On the border of the Brazilian states of Amapá and Pará, two criminal groups involved in illegal gold mining clashed. The dispute escalated into a massacre, killing eight members of one of the groups. Shortly afterward, several of their bodies were found in the Amazon River.
The identified victims include Gustavo Gomes Pereira (30), Paulo Felipe Galvão Dias (30), Janio Carvalho de Castro (35), Dhony Dalton Clotilde Neres (35), Elison Pereira de Aquino (23), Luciclei Caldas Duarte (39), José Nildo de Moura (38), and Arnaldo dos Santos Silva (61).
Several people, including five police officers, have been arrested in connection with the massacre. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details and dismantle the organized groups involved.
