JOINVILLE, SANTA CATARINA, BRAZIL – NOVEMBER 6, 2016 24-year-old Roberto Pasquali massacred four members of his family and then committed suicide. The victims included his wife, Aline Pasquali, their three-year-old son, and both of his parents. The tragedy occurred in their home in the afternoon as they were preparing for a family lunch.

A bloody knife and a .38 caliber firearm were found at the scene. The victims died from stab and gunshot wounds. Roberto took his own life by slitting his throat.
The motive for this horrific act remains unclear even years later. Neighbors described the family as calm, decent, and idyllic. Detailed witness interviews and painstaking police work have not shed light on why it happened.
