YEKATERINBURG, RUSSIA Desperate man tried to escape from his apartment engulfed in flames. He climbed out the window and attempted to descend along the building’s facade, or at least hold on until the firefighters arrived. Sadly, he couldn’t hold on, fell, and died on the spot.
Yet tragedies like this can often be prevented with something simple and inexpensive. A smoke detector at home, which costs only a few dollars, can recognize a fire in time and give people precious minutes to escape safely. Early warning is often the difference between life and death.
