ECUADOR Man weakened by depression decided to solve his problems in the worst and most desperate way. He climbed onto a billboard and attempted to hang himself from its frame. This all happened in front of several dozen witnesses, who fortunately called emergency services in time. As soon as he made the attempt, the rescuers were already on their way and, fortunately, managed to save him.
The incident was recorded by several witnesses and even live-streamed on social media. Some commenters suggested that the person never truly intended to die, but did it to attract attention. While this may be true and such behavior is described in literature as a “protest suicide,” from a psychological perspective, it is still a final cry for help before a real suicide attempt. It should never be taken lightly or mocked.
If you’re thinking about suicide, please stop and recognize that your pain is not permanent, but this step would be. It may feel like there’s no other way, but there is hope, even if it’s hard to see right now. Your feelings are temporary, and with help, they can pass.
Talking about what you're going through might feel difficult, but it’s the first step toward healing. Don’t turn away from the people who want to support you. Life can offer more than what you're feeling right now, and the pain doesn't have to last forever. You deserve help, and it’s available.
