FEIRA DE SANTANA, BAHIA, BRAZIL – SEPTEMBER 22, 2025 On Decolagem Street in the Campo Limpo district, a fatal accident occurred involving a woman who was carrying her 10-year-old son on the back of her bicycle from school. She was identified as 48-year-old Nicélia dos Santos. She turned onto the main road just in front of a moving truck, without realizing that the driver could not see her because she was in a blind spot. The truck struck her bicycle and ran over her, killing her instantly. The boy suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The truck driver remained at the scene after the accident, underwent a breathalyzer test which came back negative for alcohol, and fully cooperated with the police. He will likely not face any charges.
The incident serves as a stark reminder to all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, about the dangers posed by blind spots around large vehicles. It emphasizes the need for vigilance, defensive driving.
