LEÓN, GUANAJUATO, MEXICO – AUGUST, 2020 Triple murder took place at the intersection of Francisco López Guerra and Arturo Valdez Sánchez streets in the La Pirámide neighborhood. Armed cartel hitmen arrived at the scene and opened fire on three women before fleeing.
The victims were identified as 28-year-old María Verónica, shot multiple times in the chest; 47-year-old María de la Luz, shot in the head; and 21-year-old María de Jesús, shot in both the head and chest. All three died instantly at the scene.
Although the killers were never captured and their exact motive remains unknown, police are convinced – based on indirect evidence – that the murders were connected to cartel warfare. The region has long been a battleground between the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel and Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
