BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA Group of armed men attacked a taxi. They began shooting at it and killed the female driver inside. Reports indicate that the murder was carried out by one of the local extortion groups.
In Bogotá, as well as other cities in Colombia, several criminal schemes targeting taxi drivers are known. These can include gangs demanding a fee for entering their territory. Taxi drivers are also sometimes victims of express kidnappings, where a person is kidnapped only to be forced to withdraw cash from the nearest ATM. There are also cases of organized criminal groups using taxi drivers to scam tourists.
