LOJA, ECUADOR – OCTOBER 23, 2025 Debt collectors showed no mercy to the 65-year-old debtor. They arrived on a motorcycle, one of them suddenly jumped off and began shooting without hesitation. When the woman fell dead to the ground, both fled the scene.
Although it may seem that killing a debtor is ineffective, since it only ensures that the debt will never be repaid, in reality it is something else: to gain the respect of other debtors. If one debtor gets away with not paying, others might deliberately try the same.
