Because he desperately needed money, he decided to rob Aresty. He knew very well that she was home alone and that she would have some money on her. A confrontation ensued during which Yahya stabbed Aresty in the chest, strangled her, and beat her until she died.
In an attempt to dispose of her body, he began cutting her into pieces. After separating her lower limbs, he came up with an even better idea for getting rid of the body. He cleaned the blood traces at the scene, placed the body in a plastic box, and hired a delivery service to take the box to an abandoned house. He then threw her remains into a septic tank.
Trying to get money, he called Aresty’s husband, told him he had kidnapped his wife, and demanded a ransom of the equivalent of 600 dollars. But her husband reported everything to the police, who arrested Yahya and forced him to show them where he had hidden her body.
