GUATEMALA Two soldiers belonging to the Guatemalan armed forces were executed by members of the infamous Mexican drug cartel Sinaloa. The exact motive is not known.
Guatemala is one of the key countries on the route for smuggling cocaine from Colombia to Mexico (and onward to the USA and the rest of the world). Cartels often retaliate when the army manages to seize shipments or carries out other anti-drug operations.
The incident serves as a reminder of how dangerous it can be to get involved with cartels, gangs, or other criminal organizations. These people have shifted moral boundaries, and human life has only the value they assign to it for their organization. It is also yet another reason to say no to drugs. Similar massacres are indirectly financed by every end user of cocaine and other drugs.
