AMATITLÁN, GUATEMALA – DECEMBER 19, 2025 Three dead human bodies were found on the shore of Lake Amatitlán, in the area known as Playa de Oro. They were two men and one woman. Local volunteer firefighters assisted in pulling the bodies ashore.
Standard forensic procedures were carried out at the scene before transporting the bodies to the medical institute for autopsy. Due to the advanced decomposition, it was impossible to determine the identity or estimate the age of any of them.
Although the investigation is ongoing and not yet concluded, the most likely cause of death appears to be that they may have been swept away by a flooded river. The area was recently hit by very strong storms.
