Young Cambodian woman bitten by wild civet

PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – MARCH 25, 2026 Young woman tried to catch a wild civet on Street 310 in the Sangkat Toul Svay Prey 2 area, intending to pet it. However, the civet defended itself and painfully bit her hand.

A civet bite can be extremely painful. They have sharp, pointed teeth that can easily pierce tissue. On top of that, their saliva can carry various dangerous bacteria.

Civets are especially known for eating coffee beans. After the beans pass through their digestive tract, they are collected, roasted, and described as one of the tastiest coffees in the world. Civet coffee is sold under the name “Kopi Luwak.”
