In Africa, as well as on other continents, lynching thieves and taking justice into one’s own hands is still deeply rooted in the population. It stems from distrust in the state justice system, low education, and corruption. Such behavior, however, is a serious violation of human rights anywhere in the world – even the worst criminal has the right to a fair trial and punishment according to the law.
