UKRAINE On August 31, 2022, a Ukrainian TV channel aired brutal war footage during a news broadcast. The segment included scenes from a 2022 Russian helicopter crash in the Kherson region, as well as footage of a dead Russian soldier’s body being dragged with a rope due to fears of hidden mines. In some cases, bodies had reportedly been rigged by Russian forces as booby-trapped explosive devices.
Ukraine’s intention was, and still is, to show uncensored footage of the war and the real human cost. Russian propaganda often presents the war in a heavily distorted way, especially to support recruitment efforts and maintain public approval.
