KURSK REGION, RUSSIA – AUGUST, 2024 Ukrainian army has carried out a major cross-border attack and occupied a significant part of the Kursk region in Russia. But Ukraine’s goal is not to gain Russian territory. They wanted to show Russia’s vulnerability and lure Russian troops away from their own territory. Last but not least, to boost the morale of their own soldiers. While this operation has been successful and has shown that Russia really cannot protect its own territory, it has unfortunately not been without casualties.
