According to shocked witnesses, he first tried to cut his wrist with a machete and then severed his entire hand. He reportedly survived thanks to timely intervention by emergency medical services.
Residents said that Cau is a fairly well-known figure in the city as a homeless man. He is said to have been struggling with alcohol abuse and mental health issues for a long time.
