BEIJING, CHINA – OCTOBER 13, 2023 Fifty-five-year-old man working at the Israeli embassy in Beijing was attacked with a knife in a street in front of a supermarket. The incident took place about one kilometer from the embassy building, and local police detained a suspect foreigner. No clear motive for the attack was disclosed and it remained under investigation.

The injured man was immediately transported to the hospital, where he was in a stabilized condition. Chinese authorities and the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the attack did not take place inside the diplomatic compound, but on a public street nearby.

According to some sources, the incident occurred during a period of heightened tensions related to the war between Israel and the militant group Hamas, and raised concerns about the safety of diplomatic personnel.
