LIMEIRA, SAO PAULO, BRAZIL – JUNE 13, 2026 Tragic accident occurred during so-called rope jumping, an extreme activity similar to bungee jumping. The incident took place on a well-known abandoned bridge nicknamed “Skeleton Bridge”, which is often used for adrenaline jumps.

According to findings by the police and witness statements, a 21-year-old Eduarda Rodrigues de Freitas was being prepared for the jump by instructors from the company Entre Cordas. However, during the preparation, a fatal mistake occurred – the safety rope was not attached to her harness. Nevertheless, she was lowered from the bridge, or rather “dropped” into the void, with a fall from a height of approximately 130 feet (40 meters) being immediate and without any protection.

Witnesses stated that shortly after the fall, people at the scene began screaming that the rope was not attached. Rescuers were called quickly, but the woman suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The case was immediately taken over by the police, who launched an investigation into possible negligence and a criminal offense. Several people connected to the organization of the event were detained and questioned. Investigators are mainly focusing on whether it was human error or a systematic failure of safety procedures.

Shortly after the incident, several employees of the company also attempted to flee into the surrounding forested terrain. Police launched a search operation and several of them were subsequently detained near the scene, while others were caught directly in connection with the investigation.
