Police investigation showed that she had been in a secret romantic relationship for two years with a man identified as Subrata Mandal. She secretly left home and met him, but did not tell anyone about their relationship. When Subrata began pressuring her to marry him and she refused, it led to a series of arguments. During one of them, Subrata lost control, raped her and strangled her.
Subrata Mandal was arrested and confessed to the murder to the police. The court has provisionally rejected the possibility of bail, and he is currently facing justice for rape and murder.
