BARREIRINHA, AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – JUNE 22, 2026 Brazilian city of Barreirinha became the scene of a violent incident that caused panic among local residents. The attack took place in the Nova Conquista neighborhood, where an argument between two men quickly escalated into an attempted murder.
According to investigators, the confrontation began over a trivial dispute that was fueled by excessive alcohol and drug use. During the argument, a 29-year-old man grabbed a piece of wood and repeatedly struck the 30-year-old victim. Most of the blows were aimed at the victim’s head and upper body, causing severe injuries. Witnesses immediately called police and emergency medical services.
Military Police officers and Civil Police investigators responded to the scene. When officers arrived, the suspect attempted to flee but was captured after a brief pursuit. Early reports also mentioned gunfire during the police operation, but authorities later said they could not confirm that anyone had been injured by the shooting. As a result, the investigation focused primarily on the assault itself and the events leading up to it.
The injured man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Brazilian authorities have not released any updates on his condition. Police classified the case as attempted aggravated murder and formally charged the suspect immediately after his arrest. He was then placed in police custody, where he remains awaiting further court proceedings.
