BOGOTÁ, COLOMBIA – JULY 23, 2026 Tragic traffic accident occurred in the Tunjuelito district, where 28-year-old pregnant woman María Elvira Patiño González died after a collision with a truck. The woman, who was approximately seven months pregnant, was traveling as a passenger on a motorcycle. Her unborn child also died in the accident, while the motorcycle rider survived.

According to available information, María Elvira Patiño González was riding as a passenger on a motorcycle driven by 31-year-old Leidy Paola Gómez. The accident occurred in the San Carlos neighborhood, near Carrera 17 and Calle 51B Sur. The motorcycle reportedly lost control while traveling, causing both women to fall onto the road. María Elvira Patiño González ended up under the wheels of a passing dump truck and suffered fatal injuries.
According to witness statements and preliminary findings, a road obstacle may have been the cause of the accident. The motorcycle rider allegedly attempted to avoid an object lying on the road or a collision with it, causing her to lose balance and crash next to the truck. However, the exact circumstances of the accident were expected to be determined by the traffic police investigation.
The motorcycle rider Leidy Paola Gómez survived the accident. The dump truck driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities. However, emergency responders were unable to save María Elvira Patiño González or her unborn child.
