UKRAINE Shocking video has leaked online that likely documents a war crime committed during the war in Ukraine. While one Russian soldier holds a camera and records, another grabs an axe and mutilates the body of a Ukrainian soldier who was killed during the fighting – repeatedly hacking him in the head area.
According to international humanitarian law, especially the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols, such behavior is unacceptable. The dead must be treated with respect. Parties to a conflict have an obligation to protect dead bodies from mutilation and humiliation and must treat them with dignity.
