SHIMLA, HIMACHAL PRADESH, INDIA – FEBRUARY 22, 2026 Ordinary hospital mistake led to a shocking incident that quickly spread on social media. A video showing a stray dog walking through the hospital grounds with an amputated human leg in its mouth sparked outrage and prompted authorities to launch an investigation.

The incident took place at the government-run Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS). According to the investigation, the amputated limb belonged to 61-year-old Attar Singh, whose leg was amputated on February 19 during surgery due to serious medical complications.

After the operation, the amputated body part was wrapped and placed in a biomedical waste storage area, where it was supposed to remain until proper disposal. The hospital later discovered that cleaning staff had left the storage room door open and unattended. A stray dog was therefore able to enter, pull out the wrapped limb, and escape from the hospital premises with it.

Shortly afterward, people at the hospital noticed a dog carrying a human leg in its mouth. Footage of the unusual scene began spreading online and caused shock among patients and the public. Hospital security staff attempted to stop the dog and retrieve the limb, but the animal reacted aggressively and ran away. The amputated leg was never found.

After the video became public, the hospital formed an investigative committee to determine how the failure occurred. The investigation concluded that negligence in handling biomedical waste was responsible for the incident. Official notices seeking explanations for their actions were issued to the cleaning workers and their supervisor, and the hospital ordered stricter rules for the storage and disposal of medical waste.
