Landmine explosion destroyed Ukrainian soldier’s foot

UKRAINE Ukrainian soldier stepped on a PFM-1 anti-personnel mine during a foot patrol. The explosion caused a severe fragmentation injury to his foot. He was transported to a field hospital for initial treatment. Although no further updates about his medical condition are known, based on the extent of his injuries, it can be assumed that doctors had to perform an amputation.

PFM-1 anti-personnel mines are still of Soviet origin and have nicknames such as “petal mine,” “butterfly mine,” or “green parrot.” Their purpose is not to kill, but to maim. A wounded soldier is a much greater burden for the enemy than a soldier who has been killed.
