Man riddled with arrows

KWAMKI NARAMA DISTRICT, CENTRAL PAPUA, INDONESIA – JANUARY 4, 2026 Clash broke out between two groups of local residents, known as the Dang group and the Newegalen group. A man named Jori Murib became a victim of the violence. He was struck by a large number of arrows during the clash and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

In the Indonesian part of Papua, some local communities have been involved in long-running tribal and territorial conflicts that can escalate into armed clashes. Bows and arrows are used primarily because they are traditional weapons that remain available and culturally rooted in some remote areas. However, modern weapons are also used in the region when conflicts escalate.
