SANTA ANITA, LIMA, PERU – AUGUST 16, 2026 Serious accident occurred on Los Chancas Avenue. 51-year-old Maritza Aguirre was loading her belongings into the trunk of a taxi when a silver SUV crashed into her and the vehicle.
According to police, the SUV was driven by Víctor José Morales Meneses, who got out of the vehicle after the collision and then fled the scene on foot. Security cameras captured his escape, during which he even ran past a Serenazgo municipal patrol vehicle. Maritza Aguirre suffered serious injuries and was taken to Montefiori Clinic, where she remains in critical condition.
The taxi driver was also injured in the crash, suffering an arm injury. The SUV belonged to 44-year-old Karla Barzola Ñaña, who also got out of the vehicle after the accident. According to witnesses, she and another passenger allegedly gestured to the driver to flee the scene. Karla Barzola Ñaña was subsequently taken to a police station in Santa Anita for questioning.
Police are continuing to search for Víctor José Morales Meneses. The investigation is expected to determine the exact circumstances of the crash and whether other people may also be held responsible.
