QUETZALTENANGO, GUATEMALA – AUGUST 6, 2026 Tragic accident occurred at the intersection of 4th Street and 19th Avenue in Zone 3. 39-year-old street vendor Gerónimo Florencio Guachiac Lotiy, who was selling car accessories at the location, was struck by a vehicle after its driver lost control of the car.
The vehicle crushed the man and caused him serious injuries, including a partial traumatic amputation of his left leg. Gerónimo was taken to Hospital Regional de Occidente, where doctors had to amputate the leg due to the severity of his injuries. According to local media, the man supported his three children by working on the street.
The driver was identified as Esvin Fernando Tajiboy Pisabaj. He was arrested after the accident, but while being held in a cell, he began having seizures and was taken to the hospital under police supervision. His initial court hearing was postponed due to his medical condition.
