VIHAGAWA, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA – AUGUST 2, 2026 14-year-old Ragini Shukla died after an electrical pole fell on her. The ninth-grade student was on her way to a local shop with her friend Kamini.
Near the shop, a truck was unloading animal feed. As it was moving, an overhead electrical cable became caught on the vehicle. The tension in the cable then caused the pole to tilt and break, sending it directly onto Ragini as she was walking by. Kamini noticed the falling pole and managed to jump out of the way.
Ragini suffered severe injuries and died before she could be taken to a hospital. Local residents first had to free her from underneath the pole, after which she was taken to the Community Health Centre in Bawan, where doctors pronounced her dead. The incident was captured by a security camera, and the footage later spread on social media.
Police subsequently seized the truck and detained its driver. According to police, an investigation was launched on suspicion of negligence, and Ragini’s body was sent for an autopsy.
