RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – SEPTEMBER 4, 2026 Two armed men on a motorcycle attempted to rob an off-duty military police officer and his mother near the Acqua Fitness gym in the Barra Bonita area in the western part of the city. During the robbery, the officer pulled out his weapon and began shooting at the attackers.
One of the suspects, a man approximately 25 years old, was struck several times and died at the scene. The second suspect was also shot but managed to escape on the motorcycle. Nearby hospitals were alerted to report anyone arriving with gunshot wounds consistent with those sustained in the incident.
