JAYAWIJAYA, PAPUA HIGHLANDS, INDONESIA – SEPTEMBER 9, 2026 Three employees of an agricultural agency were shot dead by an armed separatist group in Muliama District. Aprida Rapi (49), Alfonsius Albinus Meha (35), and Wili Mbuik (26) were part of a group of workers returning to Wamena after distributing food aid in the form of piglets to local residents. According to authorities, the group was ambushed while traveling, and the attackers subsequently separated the indigenous Papuan workers from the other employees. The three victims were then shot dead.

According to local media, Wili Mbuik was still alive after the attack and was taken to a hospital in Wamena, where he later died. Reports say the attackers took his cellphone and later used it to make a video call with his family. During the call, they allegedly mocked the family, who asked the perpetrators why they had shot Wili. A recording of the call subsequently began circulating on social media.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact identity of the perpetrators. Investigators, however, are preliminarily suspecting the armed group KKB Kodap III Ndugama. 5.56 mm and 9 mm shell casings were found at the scene.
