RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – MAY 3, 2026 Two fans of soccer team Vasco were attacked and beaten near Maracanã Stadium shortly after the 2-2 draw with Flamengo. The attack occurred on Rua São Francisco Xavier, where both men suffered injuries and were subsequently taken to Souza Aguiar Hospital.
Footage recorded by local residents shows the pair lying on the ground. One of the injured men was repeatedly kicked while lying on the sidewalk. During the attack, his wristwatch was also reportedly stolen.
Before the match, police arrested five men suspected of taking part in a clash between fans. Iron bars, pieces of wood, and pyrotechnics were found in their car.
