TEMOAYA, MEXICO – MAY 4, 2026 Two women from Mexico City were attacked by a mob after local residents accused them of polluting the protected Los Ajolotes spring and allegedly performing a ritual. The women, later identified as Rebeca Ramirez and Guadalupe Guerra, were reportedly staying at the site with their female dog, and a candle was also found at the spring.
The women were initially taken to a police station, where they were later attacked by a mob. People broke into the building, dragged both women outside, and repeatedly beat and kicked them and threw objects at them. The attack continued until state and federal security forces arrived at the scene.
According to their community, it was not a harmful ritual but a spiritual ceremony associated with water and a request for rain. Both women were reportedly over 40 years old. Their exact ages, however, were never made public.
