RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – MARCH 10, 2024 The lynching that ended in death took place in the community of Rato Molhado in the Sampaio neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro’s North Zone. João da Silva was seen carrying a suspicious bag out of his house. The locals decided to confront him. When they looked into the bag, they found part of a woman’s body inside.
The residents decided to take the law into their own hands. João was brutally beaten and then set on fire. By the time firefighters arrived on the scene, he had already been pronounced dead.
