Police chase ends in shootout in Rio de Janeiro

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – OCTOBER 9, 2026 Police operation targeting suspects in luxury car thefts ended in a shootout. The incident took place in the Madureira neighborhood near the Negrão de Lima Viaduct.

Officers from the 9th Military Police Battalion (9º BPM) attempted to stop a black Omoda 5 SHS H, whose occupants reportedly tried to flee. During the police operation, the suspects opened fire, and the officers returned fire.

One of the men sustained a gunshot wound to the face and was taken to a hospital. Two other suspects were arrested. Police seized two pistols with their serial numbers removed and ammunition from the vehicle.
