PANKI, UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA – OCTOBER 23, 2026 55-year-old Vikram Singh died at the Shri Prabhu Vista Apartments residential complex after a heavy sliding gate fell on him. Security camera footage shows him attempting to open it shortly after 1 a.m. The structure, approximately 5.2 feet (1.6 meters) high and 12.1 feet (3.7 meters) long, weighed around 1,323 pounds (600 kilograms) and trapped the man underneath it.
Vikram Singh remained trapped under the gate for approximately three hours. The following day, at around 4:30 a.m., he was found by Alka, a teacher living on the building’s third floor. Police were called and removed the gate, but the security guard was already dead.
The deceased man’s son accused the complex’s management of negligence. According to available information, the gate’s stopper was worn out, and a support rod that was supposed to prevent it from falling was missing. The need for repairs had reportedly also been pointed out by the previous security guard, Jitu.
The case led to a dispute between the family and the complex’s management. In the presence of police official Amit Chaurasia, both sides agreed to a settlement of 100,000 Indian rupees ($1,050). Police stated that they would investigate the incident if an official complaint was filed.
