BHUBANESWAR, ODISHA, INDIA – JANUARY 8, 2025 36-year-old Sahadev Nayak, a municipal employee and community activist, was attacked and killed in broad daylight on National Highway 16. According to his family, Nayak had been working for a long time to combat drug sales and, as a Police Mitra volunteer, provided police with information about drug-related crime. His activities may have been connected to the attack, according to his family. However, police initially cited a personal dispute as a possible motive and also investigated possible links to the drug trade.

Several suspects were arrested in connection with the murder. According to investigators, the killing was premeditated and Nayak was attacked by four assailants.
