FAISALABAD, PAKISTAN – MARCH 22, 2024 22-year-old motorcyclist, Asif Shafiq, died in a tragic incident when he ran into a taut string from a fallen kite, which slit his throat. The incident occurred near the Novelty Bridge on the Dijkot road. Asif did not die immediately and, after the accident, he tried to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, the wound was so deep that he could not manage to stop it, and within a few seconds, he lost consciousness.
In some parts of Pakistan, kite flying is banned due to similar incidents. Violating this law can lead to a sentence of up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 2 million rupees (about 7200 USD). The majority of injuries occur during the traditional Basant festival, where kite flying is common.
