MANAUS, AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – APRIL 23, 2025 Female pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old Rubia Laura Almeida Sena, sustained severe injuries to her lower limbs after being struck and dragged for several feet by a truck. The accident happened on Avenida Autaz Mirim, in the Distrito Industrial neighborhood in the eastern part of the city.
The truck driver noticed her only when he stopped the vehicle to take a short break and got out. Rubia was still conscious but badly injured, with her left leg completely crushed and multiple fractures in her right leg.
According to the testimony of several witnesses who rushed to help her, she said that she had jumped under the truck herself in an attempt to end her life. She reportedly had trouble finding a job and was in financial distress.
Paramedics provided her with first aid and transported her to João Lúcio Hospital, where she remained in intensive care. Despite the doctors’ efforts, her life could not be saved, and she died in the hospital.
