RECIFE, PERNAMBUCO, BRAZIL – JULY 6, 2025 19-year-old woman identified as Sarah Beatriz Porfírio da Silva was riding a motorcycle with her boyfriend, 22-year-old Samuel Barbosa de Moura. On Avenida Beberibe in the Porto da Madeira neighborhood, a car rammed them from behind, knocking them both to the ground. Gang members exited the vehicle – their target was Samuel – but he managed to flee the scene. As he ran, they shouted that if he didn’t come back, his girlfriend Sarah would take the bullet. He didn’t return, and they kept their word – she was executed on the spot.

As it turned out, Sarah was an innocent lash stylist and the mother of an almost 2-year-old boy. She had no criminal record whatsoever. Her boyfriend Samuel, on the other hand, had past ties to gangs and a criminal record for theft and possession of stolen goods. In the end, she paid the ultimate price for being in love with a (former) criminal.
