LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, USA – JULY 19, 2025 Around 2 a.m., a tragic attack occurred in the East Hollywood neighborhood, where a car drove into a crowd of people outside The Vermont Hollywood club. The incident happened at the busy intersection of Vermont Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard and, according to police statements, was a deliberately committed crime.
The perpetrator was 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez, who was a patron of the club that night. He had been repeatedly kicked out due to intoxication and aggressive behavior. After being ejected for the last time, apparently out of revenge, he got into his car and drove onto the sidewalk where the crowd was standing.
He injured about 30 people, seven critically and another six seriously. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 35 years old. A taco vendor near the club entrance was also hit.
Immediately after the crash, enraged witnesses pulled the driver out of the car and physically attacked him. One witness even fired a revolver and hit him in the lower body. However, responding police officers intervened and saved him from being lynched by the crowd. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and will face charges of assault with a deadly weapon.
Ramirez has a long criminal record. Records show more than ten previous offenses, including assaulting a police officer, domestic violence, and even rape. At the time of the incident, he was on probation.
