LIMA, PERU – NOVEMBER 1, 2026 Peruvian police officer Rosbelin Rojas Moreno shot 28-year-old Rusman Mauco Gonzales with a single bullet after the man held his unconscious half-sister inside an apartment in the Carabayllo district and threatened to kill her. The man was holding a knife and was also threatening himself.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Police were called by the attacker’s partner, who managed to escape the apartment by jumping from the second floor. When officers arrived at the scene, the main entrance was blocked. Rosbelin Rojas Moreno therefore used a ladder to enter the apartment through a window.
Inside, he found a woman lying unconscious on the floor, held between Rusman Mauco Gonzales’ legs. The attacker was threatening her with a knife while reportedly inflicting injuries on his own chest. Despite repeated commands, he refused to put down the weapon and threatened to kill the woman before taking his own life.
The officer eventually fired a shot. The single bullet struck both of the attacker’s hands, causing him to drop the knife. The woman being held captive was freed, and all three individuals involved in the incident were transported to Carlos Lanfranco La Hoz Hospital.
According to available reports, both women were released after receiving medical treatment, while Rusman Mauco Gonzales remained hospitalized under police supervision. The case is being investigated by the Peruvian Criminal Investigation Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office as a suspected attempted femicide.
