JOÃO PESSOA, PARAÍBA, BRAZIL – JULY 24, 2025 At the intersection on the border of the Costa e Silva and Presidente Médici neighborhoods, a serious traffic accident involving two motorcycles claimed lives. A man and a woman riding a small 50cc motorcycle attempted to overtake another motorcycle, but the other rider suddenly turned left, causing a collision.
As a result of the impact, one motorcycle crashed into a pole and caught fire. The victims were 24-year-old Maria Érica Santos Silva, who left behind a 4-year-old son, and 27-year-old William da Silva, her boyfriend. Neither was wearing a helmet, which, according to rescuers, may have made the difference between life and death.
The rider of the motorcycle that turned survived the accident and fled the scene. The reason for his flight is unclear – he might have been under the influence of substances or simply in shock.
