The incident took place inside the elevator of the building where the victim, 35-year-old Juliana Garcia dos Santos Soares, lives. Her boyfriend, identified as 29-year-old Igor Cabral, was in the middle of a heated argument with her – reportedly fueled by jealousy, according to a friend of the victim. As soon as the elevator doors closed, he began punching her repeatedly. In total, he struck her more than 60 times in the face.

Amazingly, the woman survived the attack and even managed to get back on her feet afterward. She sustained multiple fractures to her facial bones and jaw. She was hospitalized and will require facial reconstructive surgery.
Igor was detained immediately after the elevator reached the ground floor by the building’s security team, who had been watching the assault unfold on surveillance monitors. He was handed over to the military police and is now facing charges of attempted femicide – a gender-based murder attempt. During his interrogation, he allegedly claimed he wasn’t responsible for his actions at that moment because he was not in control of himself, citing claustrophobia as the reason.
