ARONDIZUOGU, IMO STATE, NIGERIA – JULY 25, 2025 Unknown armed men carried out a series of attacks targeting civilians in the Arondizogu area of Nigeria’s Imo state. They struck three communities – Umualoma, Ndiakunwanta, and Ndiejezie – arriving on motorcycles and indiscriminately opening fire on everyone around.
The attacks left 7 people dead and a similar number injured. Police have promised the public they will deploy adequate forces and intelligence resources to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Some reports suggest suspicion falls on members of the banned separatist group IPOB (Indigenous People of Biafra). They are engaged in a struggle with the federal government, seeking independence for southeastern Nigeria, and often resort to acts of terrorism.
