SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC – JULY 9, 2025 Active army captain, 49-year-old Samuel Mora Alcántara, never accepted the end of his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, 35-year-old Elania Galarza Cabrera. Jealousy and loss of control drove him to commit a murderous act. He came armed to Elania’s house in the Mejoramiento Social neighborhood and began shooting.

At the time of his deadly visit, Elania’s mother was also in the house. She was hit by bullets as well but apparently survived, though some sources say she died later in the hospital. Elania was dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
The former couple had two children – one six years old, the other two. Sadly, they were in the house too. After the attack, Samuel took the children to his relatives for care. He then went to the Sabana Perdida area, where he committed suicide.
Family members of the victims testified that Samuel had always shown extremely controlling, dominant, and pathologically jealous behavior. This was the main reason Elania ended the relationship. He never accepted it and continued stalking her.
