CHATTOGRAM, BANGLADESH – NOVEMBER, 2024 Group of protesters unhappy with the outcome of the trial took their anger out on the lawyer. Saiful Islam Alif, a government prosecutor, had been handling the case against Hindu extremist Chinmoy Das, who had made anti-Bangladesh remarks. Following Chinmoy’s arrest, his fellow ISKCON supporters rioted, vandalized the court premises, destroyed a mosque, and later celebrated after attacking and killing the government lawyer. Alif was assaulted with machetes outside the courthouse and severely injured. He was pronounced dead at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
