SULU PROVINCE, PHILIPPINES – JUNE 13, 2016 Robert Hall was a 68-year-old Canadian citizen who became a victim of kidnapping and subsequent execution in the Philippines. He was abducted by the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf in September 2015, along with several others, on Samal Island in the southern part of the Philippines.
Abu Sayyaf is an Islamist militant organization linked to Al-Qaeda and ISIS, known for its violent acts, including kidnappings for ransom, bombings, and murders. The group kidnapped Hall along with three other individuals: fellow Canadian John Ridsdel, Norwegian Kjartan Sekkingstad, and Filipina Marites Flor.
Unfortunately, after unsuccessful ransom negotiations and the expiration of an ultimatum, Robert Hall was executed by Abu Sayyaf in June 2016. His death sparked international condemnation and increased pressure on the Philippine government to take more decisive action against this militant group.
