YÊN BÁI, VIETNAM – JULY 16, 2025 Stray street dog suddenly attacked a school-aged boy on the street. It knocked him to the ground and bit him aggressively. Fortunately, the incident was witnessed by a man nearby, who quickly rushed to help. He managed to stop the attack by chasing the dog away.
Given the circumstances, the outcome was relatively good. Aside from psychological trauma, the boy suffered only minor injuries on his leg. At the hospital, his wounds were disinfected and he received a rabies shot. He was then released for home recovery.
As in all of Southeast Asia, stray dogs are an increasing problem in Vietnam, especially in rural areas. Many dogs roam the streets unsupervised, forming packs and reproducing uncontrollably. Such attacks are not very common, but they are not isolated incidents either.
