JEPARA, INDONESIA – NOVEMBER 30, 2024 Three elementary school students, two 10-year-olds, one 11-year-old, were traveling together on a single scooter. The 11-year-old scooter driver wanted to wave in front of his friends and was going very fast. He failed to control the steering, flew the scooter off the road and hit his head on a tree, where he remained wedged. The other two suffered only minor injuries.
Although seeing a child on a scooter seems bizarre from an American (European) perspective, it is a common practice in this part of Asia. Once children are old enough to reach the ground with their feet from the scooter, they start riding.
Although the aftermath of the accident doesn’t look pretty, the kid survived. He is currently recovering with head and facial injuries at RA Kartini Jepara Hospital.
